Yes, SkillsFuture Credit can be used for ECO (Employment Conditions Observatory) renewal courses, provided the course is WSQ-accredited and listed on the SkillsFuture Credit course directory. All SCAL Academy WSQ safety courses, including those that fulfill ECO renewal requirements, are eligible for SkillsFuture Credit claims.
Simply ensure you select the correct course code when submitting your claim on the MySkillsFuture portal. If you need assistance identifying the correct course for your ECO renewal, contact our course consultants.
The $500 SkillsFuture Credit is the original one-time credit provided to all Singaporeans aged 25 and above. It has no expiry date.
The additional $4,000 is a Mid-Career Enhanced Subsidy top-up provided to Singaporeans aged 40 and above in May 2024. This credit is specifically for career transition and skills upgrading, and expires on 31 December 2028.
Both credits can be used for eligible WSQ courses at SCAL Academy, and they can be combined to cover course fees.
SSG Funding & Eligibility
To be eligible for SSG funding for WSQ courses, you must:
- Be a Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident
- Be employed in Singapore (sponsored by employer) or self-sponsored
- Meet the minimum age requirement (typically 16 years and above)
- Attend at least 75% of the course duration
- Pass all required assessments
For Singaporeans aged 40 and above, the Mid-Career Enhanced Subsidy provides additional funding support. Foreigners are not eligible for SSG subsidies but may be eligible for employer-sponsored training grants.
PRs (Permanent Residents) receive slightly lower baseline subsidies compared to Singapore Citizens. Typically, PRs receive up to 50-80% subsidy depending on the course type and sector, whereas Singapore Citizens receive up to 70-90%.
However, PRs do not qualify for the Mid-Career Enhanced Subsidy (which is only for Singapore Citizens aged 40+), nor are they eligible for SkillsFuture Credit.
Both SCs and PRs can benefit from company-sponsored training under the Absentee Payroll scheme.
There are several reasons you might receive less than the maximum subsidy:
- Attendance requirements: You must attend at least 75% of the course to qualify for any subsidy
- Assessment failure: You must pass all required assessments for the subsidy to be applied
- Cap on funding: Some courses have maximum funding caps regardless of the percentage
- Previous claims: If you've exceeded annual funding limits for specific schemes
- Company sponsorship: If your employer is claiming the subsidy, the arrangement may differ
If you believe there's an error, contact SCAL Academy's support team with your course details and we'll help investigate.
Claims & Troubleshooting
SkillsFuture Credit claims typically take 2-4 weeks to process after course completion. The timeline is as follows:
- Day 0: Course completion and SCAL Academy submits attendance to SSG
- Week 1-2: SSG verifies attendance and assessment results
- Week 2-3: SkillsFuture Singapore processes the claim
- Week 3-4: Credit reimbursement to your registered bank account
If you haven't received your reimbursement after 4 weeks, check your claim status on MySkillsFuture.gov.sg or contact SkillsFuture Singapore directly.
Refund policies depend on when you cancel:
- More than 14 days before course: Full refund minus $50 administrative fee
- 7-14 days before course: 50% refund
- Less than 7 days: No refund, but you may reschedule once at no charge
- No-show without notice: No refund or reschedule
If you've already submitted a SkillsFuture Credit claim, you must cancel it through the MySkillsFuture portal before the course start date to avoid claim rejection issues.
Common reasons for claim rejection and solutions:
- Incorrect course code: Verify the exact course name and code with SCAL Academy and resubmit
- Outside claim window: Claims must be submitted between 60 days before and 30 days after course start
- Insufficient credit balance: Check your available balance and adjust the claim amount
- Course not eligible: Ensure the course is WSQ-accredited and listed in the SkillsFuture directory
If your claim is rejected, you'll receive an email notification with the reason. You can edit and resubmit your claim, or contact SkillsFuture Singapore at 6785 5785 for assistance.
